What to expect from your newborn photoshoot.
What to expect from your Newborn Photoshoot
So you’ve got a baby on the way? Huge congrats! Let’s take a minute to celebrate the fact that you are cooking a brand new human right now, thats a pretty big deal right? What better reason for professional baby photoshoot?!
Booking a Newborn Photoshoot
You might be wondering what you need to plan for during the first few weeks of baby arriving? There are the big things such as registering baby’s birth (making them official), midwife and health visitor appointments etc. Unfortunately none of these can be planned before baby arrives.
I don’t know about you but I tried to be as organised as I could be while pregnant. Batch cooking, washing baby’s clothes and packing your hospital bags are all great ways of ‘getting ahead’ before everything gets turned upside down and your new life as parents begins.
Planning your Newborn Photoshoot
One thing you CAN organise before baby arrives is your newborn photoshoot (awesome right?) This can be booked anytime after your 12 week scan, giving you plenty of time to find the perfect newborn photographer for you. A lot of new parents don’t realise that this can be booked ahead of time and are often disappointed to find that their favourite photographer is fully booked once baby arrives. Don’t let this be you - get booked in nice and early.
Once baby arrives (you can change your photoshoot date if they decide to come early/late) you can relax knowing that you already have a date in the diary. This means that midwife/health visitor appointments can be booked around it, and you won’t have to try and fit it in around visiting friends and family.
I send out a comprehensive preparation guide when you book meaning that you’ll know exactly what to do beforehand, what to expect when you arrive at the studio and how the photoshoot will work.
What if I want family photos too?
Thats music to my ears! I always encourage my clients to have some photos WITH their baby. It’s such a special time that both you and your partner deserve to have some photos captured with your new baby. Check out this blog for more info on being IN some photos with your newborn.
I’m a Mum, I get it
Being a Mum of three myself, I remember how amazingly overwhelming those first few weeks are. Hormones, recovery, tiredness - my clients are flipping superheroes for getting out of the house with a new baby let alone getting themselves to the studio! It’s for this reason that I do everything I can to make your photoshoot as relaxing and easy as possible.
Providing a calm, comfortable space for you to relax while I work is important to me. Clients often say that it’s the first time since becoming parents that they actually get to just sit and chill, some have even fallen asleep! Working next to you means that you’ll never have to worry about your baby, you’ll be able to see everything that I’m doing. You’re also close enough to be able to feed or comfort baby if needed. Most of the time (especially if you follow my pre-session preparation guidelines) it’s a case of handing baby over and relaxing until it’s your turn in front of the camera.
Wondering what to wear?
Photographing your baby safely
I can’t emphasise this enough - safety is paramount! This may look simple but it’s important to understand that specialist knowledge and experience is required to do it safely. Having completed newborn safety training as well as paediatric first aid, it’s important that my clients feel safe handing over their baby.
