Newborn Baby Photoshoot

New Mum Hayley brought her baby Daughter Sienna in for her newborn photoshoot and she couldn’t have been more perfect to photograph!

Newborn Photos at 2 weeks

Hayley had been looking for a relaxed, friendly newborn photographer and after we met at a photoshoot for an independent maternity clothing brand Zip Us In we got chatting and I invited her to bring her beautiful new Daughter along for some photos. Being nearly 2 weeks old Hayley was worried that she might have left it too late for newborn photos but you can see from the images above that couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Experienced Newborn Photographer

Once settled, baby Sienna allowed me to swaddle her ready for her photos and I cracked on while she enjoyed a nice deep sleep. Throughout newborn photoshoots I am constantly checking baby’s temperature and if they start to get too warm I unwrap and allow them to cool down before continuing. Safety is always my priority, even if it means the photoshoot will take a little longer. My beanbag workflow is simple and quick once baby is settled, even if awake. No awkward posing or putting them into buckets or baskets, just a comfy giant beanbag for my babies.

Photos with Mum

I’m so glad that I managed to persuade Hayley to jump in for a couple of photos with Sienna. You can see above that although she isn’t the focus, she is still present and connecting with her new baby Daughter - images that I’m sure they will both treasure for years to come. I am a huge advocate for getting Mums in photos with their babies and will always try to encourage new Mothers to join in with even just a few pictures. I’ve never had a Mum regret having these photographs, but often hear remorse from Mamas that decided not to give it a go. Don’t live with any regrets - get in front of the camera.

Newborn Photography Studio

The benefit of choosing a photographer with a newborn photography studio is that you can just rock up with your baby and let me worry about tidying up. Having 2 older children Hayley was worried about finding the right space in her home for photos (who wants to be worrying about turning the house into a show home just days after giving birth?!) so coming to the studio was the right option for them. She was also able to sit and relax with a coffee while I worked, just another perk of booking a studio photoshoot!

Mum of Three

Having two older Children at home, we arranged for Hayley to bring the rest of her young family along for some photos together at a later date.

Do you have older Children? I’m sure that you’d love photos of them together with your new baby? Please don’t worry, this is totally do-able (and I highly encourage it!) Check out this blog to find out how I include toddlers in Newborn Photoshoots.

Hi Rachel I just wanted to send a huge thank you for our newborn photos and recent family photo shoot. I’m not the biggest fan of having my photo taken but you made me feel at ease from the moment I walked into your lovely studio, I’m also so grateful for how welcoming you were to our eldest two children, they really enjoyed themselves and I think this really shows in the photos, you really captured their personalities and I absolutely love every single photo you took. At a time where Covid is still at the front of everyone’s minds you made us all feel safe but at the same time the whole session didn’t feel rushed, I loved that the children were made to feel at home, which in turn made having their photos taken fun. I really am so over the moon with the photos, but most importantly the memories of having the photos taken, which to me is just as important. Thanks again xx
